1500 year old lumber—excavated from deep within the silt deposited by the Genesee River. It was carbon dated at approximately 500 AD. This lumber doesn’t belong to me, but the owner is willing to sell for $20.00/BF. There’s some red maple, a 2 inch hemlock flitch, and some white or red oak. It’s in the kiln but can be removed for inspection.
Our lumber goes into an interesting variety of projects- take this one by Melissa, for example. You can see her work in cathedrals and churches all over the United States, and she has done repair work on old world cathedral windows. You might wonder, what does someone like Melissa do on her lunch hour?  Here’s a sample- made with scrap glass and lead solder. We built Melissa a light box, a deep frame in which the window fits, back lit with LEDs. She chose quartersawn oak and it looks great. To see more, go to www.beyerstudio.com.
